



Jennifer Townsend is the Clinic Manager for both the Taunton and Courtice Active Recovery Clinics. She is a registered physiotherapist and certified in acupuncture. Jennifer has been providing the Durham Region with physiotherapy services for over 23 years. Graduating from the University of Western Ontario, Jennifer has developed her manual therapy skill through several post graduate courses and has gained significant experience in sports medicine injuries. She has provided community support for several sports teams ranging from track, to hockey, soccer and field lacrosse. Jennifer has also obtained her certificate in acupuncture through McMaster University in both Western and Traditional Chinese medicine approach.
Joy (Brooks) DesBarres is a University of Toronto (1990) graduate physical therapist licensed in both Ontario and the United states and brings a background of Sorts Medicine, Pediatrics and orthopedics to the staff of the Active Recovery Clinic. She has been a team Physiotherapist with the Toronto Argonauts and worked with various Provincial and National Teams including Water Polo and Softball at the International and Olympic level including four world championships, Olympics and Pan-American games. Raised in Bowmanville, she has returned to the area to continue providing excellent care to clients of all ages.
Scott Turner has been a Registered Physiotherapist in good standing with the College of Physiotherapist of Ontario for more than 15 years. The patient population of primary experience has been motor vehicle accidents. This includes an in depth knowledge of the related legislation and case management. In 2000 Scott graduated with the McKenzie Credential for Mechanical Diagnosis and treatment of the spine. Other post graduate courses includes the complete training for Mulligan Mobilization
Jeff Whelan has been a Registered Physiotherapist and practicing in the Durham region since 1994. Since that time, he has specialized solely in the treatment of musculo-skeletal disorders. Jeff has an ongoing interest and involvement in the study of Orthopedic conditions and their rehabilitation practices. He has extensive education in manual therapy techniques. Jeff was an assessment specialist of the local DAC and is involved in designing rehabilitation programs for the employees of General Motors and many other Companies in the region.
Alison Venable is a certified kinesiologst with the Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Human Kinetics (University of Guelph). She Has spent numerous years performing Functional Abilities and Capacity Evaluations, DAC evaluations, work site and in home assessments as well as physical demands analysis. She is a Certified Work Capacity Evaluator and a Certified Chiropractic Rehabilitation Assistant. Alison holds numerous certifications and course completions pertaining to all aspects of kinesiology.
Katrina Oravec is a graduate from the University of Western Ontario, where she earned her Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2006. She has experience in the area of Therapeutic Rehabilitation, designing, delivering and evaluating rehabilitation programs for disabled/injured individuals in need of physical rehabilitation. Katrina also has considerable knowledge with the fields of fitness, exercise and health program design and assessment, rehabilitation and nutritional counseling.
Grace Swoboda is a registered Physiotherapist with many years of experience in treating patients with MVA, sports, neck, back and joint musculo-skeletal injuries. She has extensive training in manual therapy, McKenzie methods of neck and back treatment, Mulligan treatment concepts and Sharmann muscle imbalances treatment techniques. Grace brings considerable knowledge and skills to the Active Recovery Clinic striving to assist clients to return to their full functional status.
Kate Gallager is a graduate of the massage therapy program at Sir Sandford Flemming College and has been practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist since 2001. She treats a wide spectrum of conditions, ranging from motor vehicle accidents and migraines to relaxation and pregnancy. Kate is committed to helping her clients reach optimal health, growth and well being.
Angela Stancato graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science Degree and continued her education at the Canadian Therapeutic College studying Massage Therapy and Sports Injury. As a Registered Massage Therapist, she specializes in Sports Injury Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Therapeutic Massage, General Swedish Massage, Pre and Post Natal Massage, Infant Massage and Massage for motor vehicle accident injuries.
Jamie Slobada received his massage therapy diploma from Centennial College in 2002 and has been working as a Registered Massage Therapist since that time. He has been trained to treat a wide variety of conditions concerning soft tissue and joints in all stages or recovery. His experience carries with it the knowledge of cutomizing therapy in a way that best suits the client's needs and goals. Jamie specializes in treatment of the neck and shoulders for conditions such as tendonitis, frozen shoulder, strains, and spasms.
