Acupuncture

The Active Recovery Clinic offers acupuncture as one of our many treatment services.

Acupuncture is performed by a registered physiotherapist who has become certified in acupuncture through a recognized school. Jennifer Townsend brings with her several years experience and completion of her certification through Mcmaster University. Acupuncture is offered at both our Taunton and Courtice locations

Acupuncture is a therapeutic method used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. Acupuncture is safe and effective and is often used as an alternative to medications.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles through the skin and tissues at specific points on the body.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture stimulates the body to produce its own pain relieving chemicals called endorphins. The Endorphins help to block pathways that relay pain messages from the body to the brain resulting in relief from pain, general relaxation and biochemical restoration of the body's own internal regulation system. Acupuncture improves energy, stimulates the body's natural healing abilities, reducing inflammation and promoting physical and emotional well being. Acupuncture can be used successfully on its own as a treatment but also compliments other forms of medical or physical therapy.
